Nation of the dead

I thought I belonged with a nation
with a generation
Who would lose their minds
watching innocent people
living horrors of every kind
not in the other half of the world
but right beyond our borderline
there, live our friends .. our families
We are one as if we share the same spine
And how heartbreaking.. how shocking
How many of us do not mind!
I thought they would turn the world upside down
They would put everything else aside
They would give it all.. risk it all
And not pretend to be blind!
They act like their present.. before the future
is any bright!
I thought they would speak up
To pressure those in the palace
Those who are watching from their narrow window
To stop.. to think
To fear the consequences of the betrayal they’ve signed
To prove we’re not a nation of the dead
That they failed in their job.. us to divide
I’m trying to see their excuses
But even one.. I cannot find
I thought we would never let them down
We wouldn’t let them die starving
or freeze out in the cold
I thought we still could stand tall
To be an example.. to teach a lesson
Before they even have to call!
I thought we would erupt in anger
I thought we would break that wall!
Disrupt life until they have what they need
& they don’t ask much of us
Only to stand by their side.. that’s all!
I personally heard them saying
your silence, your let-down.. is heartbreaking!
I don’t really know
when did we turn to be that indifferent.. that cold!
to live day by day
to chase the smallest of causes
and give up on the noblest of them all!
I thought.. I thought.. I thought
my illusions.. my mistake!
But how do you feel
When you know
That women & girls are being raped
That the newly-born couldn’t escape
When you know that kids are being sniped
That death comes to them
In every way, form and shape
You feel nothing at all?!
Or you look the other way
So you don’t feel so small?!
Congratulations! You’ve become as corrupt as your regime
Only in a different form
Go chase your prosperity
The life of your dreams
The life you cannot risk losing
The life in which the goods of your own land are running streams!
Congratulations you’ve officially become a lab rat
.. and like that, they make sure you’ll always be!
